    Laboring in Santa Cruz

I'm taking off to Santa Cruz for the weekend. Megan and I are going to catch a free show tonight on the Boardwalk and see Romeo and Juliet on Saturday. And while I'm in town, I might as well get some poker in at the Ocean View card room, right?

I hope to be playing in their noon Hold'em tournament on Sunday. I've played in the Saturday tournaments (36 players with alternates for ~$30 and a rebuy) three times. So far I've placed 4th, 2nd, and 1st. I'd be fine to fill that in with a 3rd place :)

If I get enough time, I'm going to try and sneak away from Megan for some of their late-night action. The last time I was there, I played dealer's call for high or high/low Hold'em, Pineapple, or Omaha, and had a great time.

Hopefully I'll catch James there. Anybody else?

    Update (09/02 10:00am)

The tournament was small - 20 with a couple alternates. I built up a chip stack early but called somebody down on their flush draw on the turn, which they promptly made on the river, so I was back to square one. I built up again, but lost an all in with my pocket pair to a higher pocket pair. I exercised my rebuy and started building up again, but the blinds caught up and I lost an all in race. I ended up in 11th or so. :(

Sounds good to me. I printed it out and will try to work it in to my schedule. Thanks!

    • I just found the link for the WSOP Tahoe tournaments at Harvey's!

I am planning a trip there last weekend of this event.

      Anyone game?

    • I was chip leader in the Oceanview Cardroom Labor Day tourney. They have them basically on all holidays. $150 plus $20 woth 36-50 people. They wanted to split it at 8 people. I held out ont he split til there was three of us and we each got $1520

I think I am done doing $50 tournaments unless at home games. They have 3 of these a week at oceanview.

    • Yeah I was talking to Dave about those events in Tahoe, maybe we should all coordinate and make a party of it.

    • Wow, I think that sounds like a great idea, Luke. I have a hard time making time on my weekends, but I'm working hard on rectifying that. Actually, we were talking about going to South Lake Tahoe for the WPT Circuit event, or maybe to Vegas for the Venetian Deep Stack, both in October. I'll definitely consider Reno as another option, though. I'll let you know what we figure out.

And obviously, nice work ;) Holding it down for the Bay Area!

    • I had no idea they had card room in SC. I'll have to check it out sometime.
sorry to hear about your bust out of that tourny, I'm sure its really gonna hurt your poker bankroll :)

Me and Dave R had very successful trip to reno this weekend. I highly recommend a weekend trip there if you want to make some money. We both took down a tourny ($120 buy in 40 people) and made money in cash games. Lots of drunk loose players. The rib fest was wild fun time too. Oh yeah, I'm in a tourny and I look across the table and there's Tony from our group!! what a small world.

      see ya online tomorrow night.
