Dealing from the wrong deck?!

    • Quick rules question. In this situation, there was 3-way pre-flop action. The flop was dealt, bets were made, the turn was dealt, another bet was made, and the opponents fold. As we are scooping the cards up, we notice the flop and turn were dealt from the wrong deck. What do you do?

      1. Give everybody their money back and re-deal the hand
      2. Act like it was dealt from the right deck since the hand was finished
      3. Give the eventual winner (who had the best preflop and showdown hand) the pre-flop pot
      4. Throw your hands in the air and run around like a chicken with your head cut off

    • Continue as though it was the right deck. Say 'whoops' as you would if you accidentally exposed an Ace while dealing and move on. Either only use one deck in the future or have a dedicated dealer.

    • Nobody wants to be a dedicated dealer and using one deck really slows the game down. We just have to accept that mistakes will happen. It seems a bit weird moving forward as if it was the right deck, but I can see the benefits of that. It's still random and nobody knew it was a different deck. It just seems wrong to do it that way.

My vote is if you can recreate the action, give all the money back. If you can't, continue on as if it was the right deck.

    • When in doubt, search the TDA blog.

In our house, a fouled deck is a voided hand. Reconstruct the pot and return monies to all players in the hand.

Irregularities 3: If a card with a different color back appears during a hand, all action is void and all chips in the pot are returned to the respective bettors. If a card with a different color back is discovered in the stub, all action stands.

So, if cards from the wrong deck played, then kill and return. If cards from the wrong deck are in the stub, but not played, action stands, per above.

p.s. Marky Mark is the best dedicated dealer around (Tony's friend, Sam, is great too). I love it when there is a dedicated dealer! Tip your dealer well! (Foster, I owe you.) :D

    • I would say return the chips and re deal the hand cause u don't want everyone complaining all night about how they would of won if it was delt from another deck.

    • Yeah, I had that hand won with either deck which was unfortunate cause I wasn't going anywhere, against J with one deck and T with the other. But the decision didn't seem to affect anyone that much

    • Definitely a miss deal!! How could it be anything different?

    • I agree it should be a misdeal, but if the action can't be recreated, it's hard to undo it. Just playing devil's advocate here :)
