    • Who's with me? Rebecca, Adrian, and I are going to play some 1/1/2. Let me know if I should look for you there.

    • I am too busy these days to play live.

      Few things -

Keep your raises 10BB (raise only QQ+ and AQ+). You might get 2-3 callers. The players there are not observant and will not respect UTG raise.

Be aware of which type each player is - is he a donkey or is he a player who is playing to take advantage of donkeys. Donkeys raise big with small pairs because they wont want to get see the flop with overcards. Sharks raise big with huge hands because they know they will get callers.

There is no use raising small pairs even from button because you WILL get called. See a cheap flop and go for the set.

Forget pot size - go allin with nuts.

    • Hey Krishna, I was gonna send you an email after lunch to see if you could make it, but thankfully you came across the thread beforehand :) Thanks for the tips - I will definitely try and integrate that into my game. I totally agree you will get called by lots of people, and raising with small pairs or suited connectors is not worth it, as you will get paid off after the flop, so you might as well just get in for cheap. I'll let you know how it went :)

    • What time? Easy to get on a table?

Does Krishna mean 10X the BB for raises? ($20?)

    • Rebecca will probably beat me there (5:30?) and I will hope to arrive around 6:30. It took me something like 30 minutes to get on a table last time I went around that time. Tuesdays are good for that.

Krishna does indeed mean to raise to 20BB = $20. You'll get 2-3 callers with that most of the time, especially if you are playing against the unobservant players. Even the observant ones there seem to like to call that, just to get a chance to outplay/outflop you (?)

    • Good luck all.

Hoping to see some posts with actual hands and WINNINGS.
I know all of you are better at remembering hands than I am.

    • Ugh. I mostly followed your advice but got stacked with my against a . Ugh. Again.

    • I mostly followed your advice, Krishna, and cashed out just under $400 with a $200 buy-in. Fun!

The last hand was the key and quite odd. I limped in with . Two big cards (Ace? Jack) hit the flop as well as 2 clubs. Some guy bets out $12. I re-raise to $112. Everyone folds to the original bettor who thinks a while.

I tell him, "Get off your flush draw now." I was trying to represent a strong ace. I didn't believe he had a flush draw - I actually put him on a weak ace.

      He finally called.

Turn is a blank. He checks to me, so I know for sure he's weak, but I'm not sure what to do since I only have a flush draw. Adrian and Rebecca were at the table, maybe they remember, but I think the turn was checked.

River comes another Jack but it's the ! I push hoping to get him off of his weak ace and he calls. I figure I am likely behind at this point with 3 clubs and a pair on the board. I expect him to turn over AJ.

I ask him, "What do you have, a boat?"

He flips over ! Wow, I sure wasn't expecting that. Thank goodness it was a tiny flush.

I flip over my , drag the pot and leave.

    • Jason-
I hate pocket pairs because I have lost stacks with them.
I think 88-JJ are tougher to play than 22-55.
      Better luck next time.

Alexis - Congrats on the win.
      The hand is very interesting.
I bet you were thinking you got the wrong club.
Why did you raise so big (112 vs 12)? Was there already a lot of money in the pot?

    • I was an idiot. He showed weakness, I wanted to take it down right then, HOWEVER, there really wasn't enough money in the pot to justify my aggressive dumbass move. What - $30 at the most?

Got stupid lucky on that hand. But I liked my play the rest of the evening a whole lot, however, after playing for 3 hours I was only up $6, so maybe my impatience was getting the better of me.

But, yeah, stupid is as stupid does. That was stupid does in neon lights.

      Sigh.

p.s. played a couple hours of 3-100 spread at Garden City today. Bought in with $100, cashed out with $325. Was a loose table and I got no respect so I limped with AK and pairs and any suited connectors if family pot (and I re-raised max with any AA, KK, QQ, JJ if lots of callers of prior bets). I flopped a boat on one hand that was almost family and pumped up to $12 preflop. I had pocket 9's, board was TT9, so my push of $100 max bet, first to act, was considered an aggressive steal and one guy didn't believe me and called. That was sweet.

Another family pot I limp with AK. Flop comes A 3 T. I bet minimum $3, all 7 players just call. Turn comes another Ace, I check it this time and everyone gets a free card (one smart guy just mucked his hand). River comes another 3, I check, one guy bets out $20, I re-raise to $120 (max I can raise). Folds back to him. He thinks and thinks. He opens his hand. He has a 3. I cover my face. He thinks some more.

      He calls.

Yee haw. I scoop and leave.

    • Somebody please tell me why I can't make money at a casino. Please. Fuckin tens.

    • I just recently started having positive ROI at the cash game on a fairly consistent basis. So, I don't know what to say except that hitting a dry spell happens. Remember Rebecca's story? She took a break after her aces got cracked, what 8 out of 16 times or some such sick percentage?

My check raises get too much respect while my initial raises (if not HUGE) get very little respect. Knowing that, I try to manage pots until I have a monster and then go for the kill. If I don't have a monster and someone is betting hard, I can lay down the best hand. I did today. Ace on the flop, I figure the guy betting aggressively doesn't have me outkicked, but he might, so I smooth call his first bet and fold to his $100 bet on the turn.

He gleefully flips over A2. I told him I had him beat. He said he knew I did. I lost about $22 on that hand. I took him for $150 later on.

      Patience, my pretty....

    • Thanks for the motivation. Either way, I think it's time for a break until I figure out this move thing. Too much overall stress makes for lack of concentration and patience.
