    • Kyle, I reformatted the text to make it look a bit nicer. We are still working on a hand-history importer that will make this look extra slick :)

      Preflop

So, here's what I have for ya. The preflop limp is dangerous. You are 4-way with the two blinds. Scary!

      Flop

Now there is 800 in the pot and you flopped top set with possible straight and flush draws. The blinds check. I would surely bet with only one player left to bet, unless you had really, really, good reason to think the 4th player was going to bet.

Luckily, he does. Now your check was genius :) He bets 600, which makes the pot 1400, and you charge 1800 more. That seems like a good charge for any of the draws he might have. It's hard for him to put you on such a good hand, so I think you could expect that he might not be much of a believer.

What is your table image? You said you didn't pick up any real hands, yet you had a decent enough chip stack. Were you stealing here and there? Could an observant player put you on a steal/resteal here?

      Turn

Now there is 5600 in the pot. The turn is scary. There are a lot of hands that may have called on the flop that just hit: , , . And now there are even more draws (spades and straights).

You bet out a bit more than half the pot, which means anybody with 3:1 pot odds are getting the right odds to call, especially when they have a third of their chips in the pot :/ I think I'd just go all in there in your situation, especially if I have more chips than my opponent.

Would I call with a gutshot and 2nd pair in this guy's place? Doubt it, even if you seem to be the craziest player at the table!

      River

Well that just looks crappy. Are you making a crying call? Probably... But when you think about what this guy did, could any of us expected it?

      Summary

I would have raised preflop. But then again, maybe this was a lively table. But if you were taking down pots with no hands, you might have got some action, anyway.

The check-raise seemed risky, but you probably thought this dude would bet for you. But that's one nasty board.

After that, all in on the turn instead of a value bet. The board just got worse.

      What do you think?

    • ok so it was a rebuy tourney so it was crazy its a 3 dollar 25k guarantee tourney on STARZ the table was all in pre flop all the time. so i assumed UTG that it would get raised and i wanted to get a feel for how many people were in the pot first and see what to do from there. i had played like a NIT (played only top 10 hands) i showed down 3 out of 5 hands with the goods. every time a hand had been checked to the guy behind me he bet. so of course i expectd him to bet when i checked. after i hit the trips there was just no way i was gunna fold. on the turn your right i probablly should of pushed but i did bet 1/2 his remaming chips so i was expecting an all in or fold from him. with my NIT image i didnt expect him to call me on the re raise let alone a turn bet with middle pair shitty kicker. on the river i was hoping hed check but also assumed he could of thought i was on a flush draw and if i checked the river it would make it lok like this also and therefore hed push me all in here to get me to fold. or he could of missed his draw and pushed trying to get me off the hand. the pot was so huge i already had commited my self to the hand all the way in my head. i was prepared to see KQ or K high diamond draw or even AK but when he turned over J8 my heart fell out of my chest it was the cherry on top of 3 days worth of horrendus beats after 2 excellent live finishes.

    • Yeah, I would not have expected that hand, either. So it seems your image was what it needed to be and this guy was the kind of guy he needed to be in order fo ryou to make the plays you did. After hearing your description of those things, the only questionable thing was betting half his chips instead of going all in. Either way, he probably calls and gets lucky. And either way, if he had a different hand, he'd probably call there, too :/ I'd say it went down how you wanted... except the luck-sack river.

    • i had gotten so few hands that i was betting scared trying to keep him in the hand because i was playing to see another 200 players drop in order to cash and get 20 dollars for my 3 dollar investment
