Adrian and I played at Lucky Chances last night. We sat down at the same table with 7 other players that we've never played with before. We both bought in for the same amount, we were seated 1 away from each other, and for the most part we play about the same. We try to enter most pots raising, whether it's or or even . We like to continuation bet, but can make a good fold. And of course we like to fire a three-barrel bluff once in a while :)
Adrian is clean cut, wearing his polo shirt from work, the fancy watch, glasses, etc. He looks like a guy who went from the office and decided to hit the poker table. I'm wearing my hoodie with sunglasses, have my iPhone headphones in, and haven't shaved in 3 weeks. Oh, and I'm also wearing my handmade scarf from Megan (ala Dario Minieri) because it's frickin cold in this place and they don't let me put my hood up (it conceals my face, which is a big no-no, I guess). So I'm the juvenile delinquent.
The first hour or so, most people fold to Adrian's preflop raises, and if they didn't, they fold on the flop when he follows up. He shows some good hands, and continues to command great respect and builds a small increase in his chips.
I take somebody out with pocket threes (against eights) preflop, and then another player with my pocket aces, and then show a big bluff. I continue to get multiple calls preflop and post-flop, but usually not on the turn and the river. Aside from that bluff, if I'm called, I have the goods. I double up over the course of the hour.
That's when something funny happens. Adrian gets called down with his "full house" (ha) against quads with on board. He had me convinced, but I guess the guy with quads thought his was good.
After that, I can pretty much take any pot I want - only a couple players will play against me post-flop. And when Adrian raises, he gets 4 callers. It goes like that for the rest of the night.
We played for four hours, and it was very interesting to see how other players' perceptions of us changed over the course of the game. It was so much more obvious than what I am used to. Has anybody else experienced this kind of shift?
