Phil Hellmuth Breaking Records

    • I don't know how I came across this, but I did.

Now, can I do the really nasty deed and final table Wednesday (record 41st final table)? Then if I win on Thursday (record 12 bracelets), it would be five records in five days!!
      -Phil Hellmuth

Check out the full post here. He is full of himself, but his records do a lot of the talking. He's a crazy guy, but he plays so well. Note how he talks about being all in only once or maybe zero times this tournament. He really gauges his success in playing by the number of times he's all in... Noted.

    • That is why he is the best NL holdem tournament player of all time.

    • I saw him at the Rio after I busted out of the event. He was walking away from the HORSE final table. He was saying "blah blah blah, baby" to some guy as he walked by. :p

    • What's really impressive is that he is currently in the middle of the pack at the Main Event. With 89 people left, he is 42nd. This is out of 6844 entrants! Arrogant and annoying, yes, excellent tournament hold'em player, there can be no doubt!!!

Mike Matusow is right there also. It would be so entertaining if they both made the final table!

    • Thanks for the update. About 4 days ago I searched for his name in the standings but couldn't find it. I can't help wanting him to win - he's from Madison, WI :)

    • Did anyone see recent Poker after Dark episodes?
      He spewed money to everyone.

He said on the episode that he started playing in Madison, WI.

    • Yeah, that was pretty crazy, but he doubled up later so he was even, I think. His dad was on the board or some big deal at UW-Madison or something, which is why it's funny that he dropped out of college (at Madison) to play poker professionally. I only like him because he's an "alumni" to my school :) Well, that, and he's the best no limit hold'em player in the world, of course!

    • BEST nl HOLDEM TOURNEY PLAYER but that is only in the huge fields

    • avatar for Jason M
    • I don't know, man. A lot of his record-breaking 11 bracelets come from moderate size fields. Then again, my definition of "huge" is like 2718+ ;)

    • My last year at Madison there was an 'intramural poker league.' I think they had five tournaments and the winner of each got a chair at the year-end tournament against Phil. He signed books at the bookstore for a couple hours before the tournament and then answered people's questions while playing the tournament. Among other things he said that he usually charges a $10,000 appearance fee for such things, but since it was his 'alma mater' he waived the fee. I of course found out about these tournaments just before the 'main event,' which is OK with me because I sucked even worse back then. I have some video of the tournament, maybe someday I can post it to this site... btw I think Phil took third or so and was gracious in defeat. I was sick as a dog that day, so I didn't want to stand in line to have things signed by him (though I brought some jokers, just in case the line was shorter)

    • I vaguely recall that story. That would have been hella. BTW, now he charges $50k :0
