Mid West poker

    • Was in the mid-west last week and I played a little poker in Omaha (no, didn't play Omaha in Omaha but probably should have). I played at the Horseshoe in Nebraska with my bro-in-law (waz sup Hoss!). There was a $40 tourney on Sunday with a field of 110. Accelerated blinds (are at 300/600 in the last round before the first break. I have 2250 left (started with 3.5K). I pick up KK in mid position. No time to mess around I go all-in pre flop. Everyone folds until the SB. I go into the turtle tuck hoping for a call but am fine with a fold. fyi, in the previous hand, early position goes all-in with about the same chips as me and shows 66 after everyone folds. SB thinks and thinks (seemed like hours!) but finally calls with AT suited, BB folds. flop has a T. Turn is an A. Blank on the river and I'm outta there.

1-3 no limit cash game ~30 minutes in: late position make it 16. I have QQ in the BB. I raise to 35. Late position pumps it up to 70. I call (should have went all in for ~60 more). Flop is JJ6. I check. Raiser goes all in and has me covered. I call hoping he doesn't have KK or AA. He has TT and my QQ holds up. 10 minutes later I quit with about 100 up.

      Later that day:
$25 tourney at a small-town pub about an hour from Omaha. ~16 ppl tourney, down to ~8 ppl. Blinds are 400/800. I have 38os in BB. 1 limper and SB is in, I check. Flop: 368 rainbow. I check. Mid position limper bets 2K. SB folds. I go all in for ~10K. Limper contemplates he's beat but calls anyway with TT. My 2 pair holds up leaving him 1 chip and I ride to 2nd place for $100.

Good ROI, not a great $$$/hr, but more fun than tipping cows!
