top pair vs ???

      I figure I had the best hand after the flop: QQ with top kicker. I pretty much knew I'd be getting all my chips in but I did it in the wrong order. I checked. Scuba bet ~3.8K making the pot about 11K. I push all-in with about 14K, about another 10K for Scuba, about 2.5:1. I think Scuba puts me on missing the flop with AK, AJ or a low pair and he calls flipping over J9os. He has middle pair (99).
      turn: K
      river: T

      9TJQK = a straight for Scuba.

      my 1st error: probably should have shoved pre-flop.
      my 2nd error: definitely should have bet-out all-in immediately after the flop. That would have kept the pot odds much lower for a call. (~1.5:1)

      That's what I get for slow-playing top pair. Hopefully I'll remember this lesson next time! LOL

      how is it an error to get your money in in this good of shape? the fact that you lost the pot is results oriented. he's NOT getting the right price to call with his hand. you said he's getting 2.5:1. in this spot you're almost a 4:1 favorite. you can hardly say letting him stack off is a mistake.

    • Your only error on this hand and I would say a small one would be smooth calling pre flop. The check raise was the optimal play in my opinion vs scuba here. This is an easy fold for him once you check raise all in with that board. You just got unlucky at the end here after he makes that call. LOL Donkaments

    • You got him to act in a way that he wouldn't have if your hand was exposed. The play was detrimental to him at the time he made it. He did exactly what you would have wanted him to do if his hand was exposed. I don't know much about M's and I always thought 'Scuba' was something you did underwater, but it sounds to me like you played that hand well. He just beat the odds AKA got lucky. Nothing to feel bad about there. You double up something like 11 times out of 12 there... (you mathemagicians and pokerstove users, check it for sure)
