    • For those that don't know, my wife and I are hosting a $55.00 tournament this Saturday night, May 2nd. The posted time is 6:00 p.m., but it will start no later than 7:00 p.m.

The buy-in is $55.00 with a $50.00 re-buy before the first break ends. We're anticipating between 3-5 tables. If we haven't met or I wasn't able to obtain your contact information via the proper channels, you are welcome to come. You can e-mail me directly at WATCHYOURTONE@COMCAST.NET for directions if you're interested.
      Thanks,

      Jason E.

    • Thanks for hosting. Not too too hectic, but now that you brought it up...

If I may be so bold, I'd suggest trying to get the game going sooner than later. We waited until 100% players arrived, then it took about another 15 minutes before cards were dealt. Starting late -> ending late. And I didn't understand the 2nd break after 2 rounds. Someone said it was 3 rounds but I'm pretty sure it was only 2.

And establishing house rules prior to the game would probably be a good idea. There was ambiguity about if a player reveals his hand before making a call, is the hand dead or not. When I asked about the hand in question, the details about it being heads-up wasn't conveyed so I don't know if that affected the tournament director's decision but that left me caught in the middle so next time I'll just not get involved.

And now that I've complained so much I'm sure I won't get invited back. But I DID enjoy the game. Thanks for having me over and I hope to make it to the next one. In return, you're welcome to the next game I host and please, don't hold back on how I can make my game better.

    • Not bad for your first big game J. I suggest just having 2 breaks total. As far as the hand being shown, yes I was involved in it, and I am of the opinion that the tourny directors decision is always final. Even if it went against me. The not showing your cards rule is a recent tourny rule that was added in big casinos to prevent collusion, i.e showing a friend your cards so he can raise or fold or call depending on the benefit of the situation. In my game there is nothing wrong with showing your cards when heads up and the only action left is on you, i.e NBC heads up championship, high stakes poker, poker after dark, blah blah blah. This is what all the old school grinders believe has always been a part of the game, and is part of the true form of poker. The only person showing your cards at the end of a hand with action left on you hurts, is you. I just made the mistake(and a big one cause I probably am calling there), of showing my cards without knowing the house rules. Good tourny though, wish I coulda won that coin flip. :). Oh and Craig, I thought all you points are fair and valid so I don't think your oout of line. You seemed like a cool guy to play with, so Im sure he will invite you back.

    • It's definitely good to make it clear what the rules are ahead of time, but there are so many details that it's easier to reference the TDA rules. However, if your home rules differ, it's good to point out where. It's tough to host, but keep it up :D

    • I'll just say that I didn't have all of the facts, and leave it at that for now. We can discuss the hand at your place on Thursday Tony, as I didn't have the chance to do so afterward.
