Knowing when to stop ...

    • Strange force of the universe, I guess. We all know it but can't stopping digging ourselves in the hole deeper and deeper until we are left with a feeling of desperation and emptiness.

I played cash games and some tourneys on Fulltilt today.

Aces got cracked on the turn or the river 3 times. A couple of big hands, too with the same result. I am not talking about going all-in pre-flop and getting out drawn. I am talking about getting a call on 4x raise preflop by lower pairs and suited connectors, completely missing the flop and calling a pot size bet to out draw on the turn or the river. Yep, you played it perfectly but odds were against me for some reason.

Poker God is saying "This is not your day to play poker". And I can feel it, too. But, instead of listening to my gut, what do I do? Turn around and go for more punishment - yeah.

So I say, I need to up the stakes, play tight and go for cash ... play solid and disciplined poker, boring and undramatic but I know I can cash at least ... done it plenty of times.

So I signed up for $50 tourney.

After folding a bunch of hand, I finally woke up to KK in the cutoff. Fantastic.

Blinds are still small. UTG makes 3x bet and everybody folds. I re-popped to double the pot (1/4 of my stack), blinds folds and UTG calls. So I put him on Group 1 hands ... Aces, AK QQ JJ maybe TT.

Flop - Flopped a boad with flush draw on the board! Yeah!
both players checks. The turncomes - UTG bets and I paused for a few seconds and call as if I'm drawing with
Then the river comes - UTG makes a small size bet, I make a min. re-raise (representing nut flush like an idiot), and he shoves all of his chips. Sweeeeeeeeeet! I am sitting there almost peeing in my pants dreaming of taking all of his chips.

Then he turns over his pocket 9s.

We should all learn to listen to our instincts. There are good days and bad days. Poker will be there tomorrow and the next day. Seriously folks. Learn to walk away when cards are not falling your way.

Just as I'm ready to walk away for the day, I got a text msg from Alexis looking for a game tonight. Sure, I'll play. Maybe this bad luck only applies to online. Maybe live poker is exactly the opposite. Maybe I exhausted my bad luck and I will play a dream poker tonight. Maybe. maybe ...

How stupid am I? But I can't stop. Time for a serious therapy session...

      Hello Alexis, Patti, and Satoshi,

Is your live game open to other players? I've posted here to pokersoup for a while now and have played at various games here and there with the players from this site.

Can I take a seat at your table tonight??

BTW, super lol on the your above story. I like to believe that online poker is completely non-biased but sometimes, i feel like if your're playing perfect A,B,C poker, the site either rewards you with good hands and big pots for playing smart and tight or punishes you with good hands and big bad beat pots for playing too smart or not giving enough action. However, i'll have to say, lately i feel the game has been liking me so having said that, I knock on wood.

Is your live game a cash game or tourney??

      thanks.
      Paul

    • Heads up for rolls?? Meaning bankrolls?

This depends...do you have a day job or do you just play for a living?

Depending on that answer, you're bankroll could be frightening or manageable.

Dealing HU live cash games is a drag. If you find a game, let me know too.

    • That's sick, Satoshi. I hope you get a major cooler on somebody else soon for the whole stack to make up for it :) It will all even out as long as you continue to play well!
