any interest in a backgammon tournament?

    • wondering how many people in pokersoup land play backgammon. i'm thinking if we get 8 players, maybe $20 or $40 buy in, bracket style single elimination 5 points per match.

it would be a fun way to gamble on a weekend afternoon if you need something other than poker to spice things up.

    • I like the idea of playing something other than hold 'em. However I'm a newbie at backgammon so I be interested if were a $10 or less tourney.

Along that line, I'd like to get a Settlers of Catan game going, however I'm sure even fewer people know how to play it. Like bakgammon, it's a strategy game that involves dice. I've been wanting to put together a 4-6 person game. If anyone is interested, let me know.

    • omg, i love settlers of catan! i would definitely play.

but on the topic of backgammon. i know that alex would be down. so if we can find 5 more people and agree on a date and a buy in we can make this happen. we also need 3 more backgammon boards, but that shouldn't be too hard.

    • To get the poker-centric crowd warmed up for it, you might want to try a non-tournament game-night or no-money tournament.
Or bring a set to the next game. Maybe we get a backgammon game going with the knocked out players. Of course Jon will have to re-work his poker strategy so he's more likely to get knocked out early so he can teach others how to play backgammon. Before long he'll be winning our poker money AND backgammon money.

    • Bring it. Friday or Sunday perhaps? I'll be back this weekend and I'd be totally down for a backgammon tourney (or Cattan). Monopoly with real money anyone?

    • For you Catan fans, check out flash-based online Catan
You play against real people (ranked or un-ranked) and has some interesting game variations (discovery). User interface is not the greatest (trades are a little tricky) and there's not much in the way of help info, so I wouldn't recommend it for Catan newbies. But, if you're already familiar with the game, its not bad. Best of all its free.

The MSN and Yahoo versions have a way better interface but is single player only (AI can do some dumb things) and its not free. But, its more newbie friendly.
