Return to the La Center 4-40 Game

    Tough Session

Sorry I haven't posted sooner just to much going on right now. Last Wednesday marked my 3 month absence from La Center I ended up going up with Alvin and we were at the same table which was fun. Pretty much the session was miss flop after miss flop with quality hands. There was 4 cards to a straight to my which caused me to make a bad call on the river. I was in a weird predicament in the BB I pick up and it was a 8 way limp pot so I decided to call the 2 bucks to see the flop I whiffed the flop and folded. I felt like if I made it 44 to go by raising the max I would of at least had 3-4 callers missed the flop and would of lost more in the end I thought that was a good decision but just so weird. My last hand ended up being I pick up I made it 13 to go and had 2 callers. The flop came out I bet out 15 they both called the hits the turn they both check to me after deliberation I decided to bet the max and they both called!!!. Which tells me at least 1 of them are on a flush draw or have a queen. The river hits the which makes me 2 pair and if someone had a queen that means I just hit the river on them for the win I go all in for my last 20 bucks and the guy had just my luck I lose a huge pot when I thought I had the win.

    Food for Thought

With this loss I am set back under 900 it has been since February since I have been down to this point. Now I will have to recover in my normal games that we have and see how it goes. Our end of season tournament of the VPT and most likely the last tournament of the league all together. Is Saturday where the winner will take home 140 wish me luck and may all your pots be monster.

    • I think the key is to bet big on the flop to take it down there. That's about the only place you could have tried to save yourself some money. However, if it got to the turn and the action was checked to you, you were gonna lose some cash with those cards coming up. The ace on the river was a total cooler :/

    • I was on the button with the AJ hand I think the consensus is right to check the turn there but I would of lost money anyway. It happens, I understand that is the game but next time is always in the cards.

    • Preflop - where did you raise from? Mid or late position?
AJ is overrated and I think twice about raising with this even from the button.

    • I have to agree with Krishna. Top-pair/kicker with is always a weak holding. You bet about half the pot, and in that game, all sorts of hands will call. Overcards, flush draws, maybe even a gut-shot straight draw. I gotta go with pot-sized bet at least, especially with two others in the pot. You want to narrow the field down, or better yet, get the $30 pot right there! After that comes and they both check, it seems good to check. You are essentially giving up the hand, but with a max bet being 40, you can't push anybody out. Worst case, save the 40 for a call on the river. And when that river comes out, your money is going in - you can't help that.

Keep the chin up. That's what bankrolls are for. Good luck building it back up at some smaller stakes, but don't get too scared to play with the big boys ;)

      Flop:
Bet more like 40. People call with a variety of hands.
You are not deep so this is where you should commit and take it to felt if you have <
80 left. I would not mind pushing all in for 80 more.

      Turn:
Check turn. How much did you mean by max?
They are not folding Qx and flush draws making your equity very bad.
As played - bet river. Two pair is probably good enough and you are committed.

    • You were probably pot committed on that last hand, but I might have checked the river to see what the other guys would do.
