The end of the season Tournament

Here we are after over a month of no games we decided to play the freeroll. With only 5 tournaments worth in the pot. I was chip leader but by only a small margin with the blinds starting at 1/2 and doubling every half hour I had sometime to make my moves.

    Hot Start

The very first hand that was delt I get I made it 12 to go and got 2 callers after looking at a non threatning board I bet out and Chris called. The turn brought a I bet out 20 and he folded and won a decent pot. The next hand I pick up raised about the same missed flop and took it down with a continuation bet.

    Ace Eight

A bit later on I pick up I was on the button, I haven't played a hand in awhile so, I raised to 15 with the blinds at 2/4 Chris re raises for less then 45 with me being chip leader. I decided to call he had and I got lucky and flopped an 8 knocking him out It looked like a bad call but It wasn't much more for me to call so that justifies it.

    3 Handed

I started to play timid and didn't pick up enough pots and everytime I raised I either completely missed the flop or was re raised pre flop. Later in 3 handed I pick up when the blinds were 8/16 I make it 40 to go and Addision raised it to 80 I went all in and he had he flopped a set and I turned my top pair finishing in 3rd place. I thought I played bad in this tournament I was not happy about my result I wasn't aggressive enough and I deserved what I got. With the last tournament of the VPT now we will have nice cash games where I have been doing farely well and looking forward of things to come and put this behind me. Play well and may all your pots be monster.

Return to the La Center 4-40 Game

    Tough Session

Sorry I haven't posted sooner just to much going on right now. Last Wednesday marked my 3 month absence from La Center I ended up going up with Alvin and we were at the same table which was fun. Pretty much the session was miss flop after miss flop with quality hands. There was 4 cards to a straight to my which caused me to make a bad call on the river. I was in a weird predicament in the BB I pick up and it was a 8 way limp pot so I decided to call the 2 bucks to see the flop I whiffed the flop and folded. I felt like if I made it 44 to go by raising the max I would of at least had 3-4 callers missed the flop and would of lost more in the end I thought that was a good decision but just so weird. My last hand ended up being I pick up I made it 13 to go and had 2 callers. The flop came out I bet out 15 they both called the hits the turn they both check to me after deliberation I decided to bet the max and they both called!!!. Which tells me at least 1 of them are on a flush draw or have a queen. The river hits the which makes me 2 pair and if someone had a queen that means I just hit the river on them for the win I go all in for my last 20 bucks and the guy had just my luck I lose a huge pot when I thought I had the win.

    Food for Thought

With this loss I am set back under 900 it has been since February since I have been down to this point. Now I will have to recover in my normal games that we have and see how it goes. Our end of season tournament of the VPT and most likely the last tournament of the league all together. Is Saturday where the winner will take home 140 wish me luck and may all your pots be monster.

    Latest Cash Game

    Mega Pot

Friday night was a pretty good game, I bought in for the most with 35, just above Jonas with his 30 dollar buy in. After folding for the 1st 20 hands or so I stole a pot when I flopped a flush and straight draw. In the cutoff position I pick up I started the hand with exactly my buy in amount of 35. I make it 2 dollars to go after 1 limper entered the pot. Matt the shortest stack goes all in for $5.50 Josh calls and the guy who limped makes it $15.50 to go. Now I am thinking, I have only 2 options at this point If I call and see an overcard most likely I would not be able to call an all in. If I re raised all in here there is a good chance I can be heads up with Matt. I have a good chance of making an additional 10 dollars with the others folding. At worst I would be in a coin flip or a 4-1 dog with facing an over pair. I ended up re raising all in. The original limper insta calls out of turn might I add, ( Which to me you would think he would have Aces or Kings) Josh actually called partly because it was a huge pot. Now time to show everybody's hands, Matt the shortest stack had Josh had and the other guy who insta called had which was a shocker to me after the hand he told me that he thought I had AK. the board showed three 6's an Ace and a 7 giving me the winning full house and an over 100 dollar win.

    Later Stages

Later in the game I limped in with on the button. I flopped top pair and a straight draw in need of a 9 to complete my straight. Jonas called my $2.00 dollar bet on the flop and also called my $3.00 bet on the turn. The river brings a giving me trips he bet's all in and I called he had a full house with he ended up catching a 1 outer to have me call his 15 dollar all in crazy how that can happen.

    Food for thought

With this win of 60 dollars at the end of the night I have recovered just over half of my losses from last week. Stay tuned my next post should be about a La Center run for the 1st time in almost 3 months at the good ol 4-40 spread game. Take care and may all your pots be monster.

The end is near of the VPT

!! No tournament 2 weeks in a row!!!
This is the 2nd straight week and 3rd tournament of this season, where we couldn't get enough players to play. I understand that it is hard to get commitment out of enough people to keep the league going. I think the league is running short and almost out of options. At this rate Jonas and I will have to talk about if we are only going to play 1 more tournament or 2 more before the end of season tournament. When we determine that, we will relay the message to everyone.

    Cash Game

We were only able to get 3 handed for the cash game and it was one of those nights. Couldn't get anything going and bad luck at the same time spells doom for you. I had the second highest flush and of course ran into the I ended up losing 102 dollars by far my worst loss in a cash game in quite sometime but that is the way the game goes sometimes.

    Food for Thought

Here I am again at the crossroads of figuring out what I want to do with my bankroll which is back to what I started with after the WSOP Diseaster. I am debating to go back to La Center and play more 4-40 spread or keep playing in the games that I am playing in for now. Give me some feedback the more the better. Play well and may all your pots be monster.

    Wasted Weekend of Poker

    A Nice Call

Hey everybody, I am here to tell you how the weekend went but there isn't much to talk about. Besides making a sick call for my last 20 dollars in the cash game on Friday night. With when the board was I bet out 5 dollars on the flop after making it 2.50 to go preflop. Jonas goes all in and so does Addison which is not of concern really. Jonas was just wanting to re buy and playing like it I ended up calling. Jonas had then Addison had just top pair and dodged all of those cards to win a MEGA pot.

    The rest of the weekend

The game didn't happen on Saturday and I didn't count it against the season. Then with the free roll that started at 2 on Sunday I signed on 20 minutes early. And literally couldn't find it after extensive searching how crappy you play for 4 hours, to get a seat and miss the tournament how retarded. After Friday's 63 dollar profit night the roll is close to 1,100 after the diseaster from the Hood River tournament I have quietly made just over 100 bucks since. I am getting back into form doing well in tournaments, also capitalizing in the cash games of late. Stay tuned hopefully this week will be better for play. Take care and may all your pots be monster.

    6th Tourny of the VPT

    Early Going

Here we are already the half way point. We ended up having a great turnout of 9 players. The early going saw Jonas take down quite a bit of pots same with my dad. Meanwhile, I was getting some bad cards and couldn't do much with it. Then finally when the blinds are 100/200 I am in the BB holding Jonas makes it 500 to go. I re raise and make it 2,000 he calls. The flop was I checked he bets 2,000 and I went all in after much deliberation thinking that he was going to call cause it was under 3,000 to him to call. He ended folding after that hand I was put in better shape.

    6 Handed

After doing some folding and the table getting smaller with some more elbow room (Which is always very nice!!). Dave get's knocked out on a suck out by Addison. Then Addison won a 3 way all in with knocking out Jonas and Justin when they both had him dominated with a miracle 3 on the river all of a sudden we are down to 3 handed.

    3 Handed

I was 2nd in chips but all 3 of us had more then enough chips with the blinds only at 300/600 there was plenty of play to be had. I thought I was getting knocked out when my did not improve against my dad's which crippled me. Two hands later I river a 9 for a pair to stay in the hunt. Soon after, I flopped a straight to stay alive with . Then hit the Ace on the river to stay alive. I definitely felt like the comeback kid. When my dad got knocked out I barely had Addison covered going into heads up.

    Heads Up

By the way before I get into heads up. I wanted to mention a very funny thing which almost costed Addison the tournament, my dad raises Addison pushes all in with after some delibration, my dad calls and shows a far better hand and won. This crippled Addison and somehow he came back by winning a couple of all in's. He clams that is his hand that he always plays. If Addison would of been knocked out soon after. That would of qualifed as a "Matsow blowup". The first two hands went his way and he had the slight chip advantage. I stole a couple of blinds and made a re raise with nothing, with that I re gained the advantage until. I pick up the flop gave me 2 pair which I was looking to capitalize on this situation. I check raised all in Addison called with and thank god the board didn't pair for a split and took it down with some valuable points to gain the point lead over Addison.

    Food for Thought

Thank you everybody for showing up for our best turnout for the season to date. Stay tuned on the tournament that I will write about which I just got back from actually that should be out by Friday. Take care and may all your pots be monster.

    WSOP Qualifer/VPT

    Hood River Rotary Club Tournament

    The Structure

As all of you are wondering, let me tell you about the structure which I liked. There was a total of 144 players with a couple of tables with 11 players!!! and of course with my luck my table had 11 people go figure. They provided dealers and with a 10% payout that isn't to bad to manage. Each player started with 5,000 in chips with the 1st blind level at 100/100 with 30 minute rounds then starting in round 3 they turn into 20 minute rounds.

    Couldn't Get Anything Going

The title pretty much sums up everything, on the 3rd hand of play I picked up and make it 300 to go and got 2 callers. I whiffed the flop and folded. I proceeded to fold until the next revolution then I picked up and again I whiffed the flop, making everything becoming frustrating and now I am getting whittled down to 3,900. Another revolution later with the blinds at 100/200 I pick up I decided to make a play that I wanted to execute to steal a pot and get my stack back up. I made it 700 to go and got 3 callers which sucked. The flop came out I went all in for 3,200 and was called by the biggest stack at the table. He ended up having I felt like that play works about 8 out of 10 times, most likely you just take it down cause he most likely wouldn't call with a 10 in that spot. If I won that pot I would of have around 7,000 and could have had more time to accumlate chips. I look back on that play and I think it was stupid, the intention was good but just didn't work when you really needed it. Of course I am disappointed that I would of picked a better spot but I am not a player that would just sit there until I literally can barely pay the blinds just to wait for a big hand. I have good patience but I guess it didn't show at the biggest tournament that I have played in.

    VPT

After that disgusting showing, I headed over to the VPT with 6 players this was one of the tournaments with one rebuy and 3 people used it. Early on I was picking up a couple of hands and was up early then just went card dead for almost a round and a half. After Addison knocked out 2 players in 1 hand just before the re buys he was massive chip leader and couldn't see how he at least wouldn't make it into top two. Kalib and Jonas were knocked out pretty quickly then it was Justin and I that were short stacks with Chris and Addison were licking there chops to knock us out. With being in the big blind Justin pushes all in for just under what I have I am holding and decided I wanted to double up or flame out. I would still get points in the process regardless of what happens, I called and flopped a Q to win the hand. after that, I was close to the other remaining players. I pick up in the small blind and pushed on Chris he picks up and calls which puts me in huge trouble. Then in a mircle turn of events, I turn a to double up to take the chip lead. From then on I proceeded to frustrate and dominate Addison while we were 4 handed. I eventually knocked him out with after re raising him pre flop he had I ended up turning a straight for the win.

    Heads Up

It came down to Chris and I heads up I got off to a good start, I think I just lost focus and re raised all in with Q high when thinking he whiffed the flop. He flopped top pair with a bad kicker and ended up taking it down in the process. I did get 2nd for the 3rd time this season which will be good for the points race when it comes down to crunch time. Hope you enjoyed the post the more feed back the better. Play well and may all your pots be monster.
